Zentangled Self Portraits Every 3rd grader began by drawing a self-portrait and outlining it using sharpie to create a crisp and clean picture. The students then filled in portions of their portrait with Zentangles using Sharpie. A Zentangle is a method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. We then watched a time lapsed video of a Zentangle being created to give the students ideas. The students were encouraged to get a creative as they could and fill in their hair, background, or clothes with Zentangles. Some students also added color to create contrast. October 2015
We focused on Form (what is it like?) and causation (why is it like that?) to learn about space and depth, value and light source. We began by watching a YouTube video of pumpkins dancing. this was a great hook, but it was also a great tool for the 3rd graders to see form, space, and value and lightsource. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fc_mAGfay2Y Click here to see the worksheet 3rd graders used. |

The 3rd grade is now on their economics unit. Each class brainstormed items that they think will sell to make a profit. They will manage the money made and decide as a class what they would like to do with it. One class is making books to sell- journals, sketch books, recipes books, activity books. Another class is making duct tape wallets. Examples to come.
